All the Flavors of the Rainbow

We have recently checked out several art books from the library and have been talking about how to make purple, green and orange by mixing the primary colors. Today we made some sugar cookies and got crazy with the food coloring. We made red, blue and yellow dough then mixed those up for the secondary colors. O had fun and we both consumed a lot of dough. And cookies. And poor Truett slept through it all.
O wanted to be in charge of the mixer, of course. He kept asking to turn it up higher b/c "it sounds like an airplane!"
The purple dough turned out to be the least appealing color but we ate it anyway.
We've also been learning about Noah and his ark so we shaped some of our colorful dough into rainbow cookies and talked about God's promise. O is much better at making "snakes" than "balls" so he proved himself to be a very adept rainbow cookie maker.
Oliver was treating his Geotrax firetruck engine like a baby today. He fed it some cookie dough and comforted it b/c it was crying. He said it needed a clean diaper and went to change the firetruck. He put the wipes away after I told him he could only use one. (Apparently one wipe wasn't going to be enough to take care of that diaper.)

He told me that the firetruck wanted a cookie and I said, "I wonder which color is his favorite?"

He immediately replied, "Red!" I started laughing and said, "I think so, too!"

What a joy he is. I love ordinary days.
